Dr. Mollee Smith
Mollee Steely Smith, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Health and the Legal System (HEALS) Lab at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She is a Criminologist and completed her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She joined the UAMS Department of Psychiatry faculty in September of 2023 after completing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in translational addiction science at UAMS. Dr. Smith’s program of research involves community-engaged methods to promote the health and well-being of women who are involved in the criminal-legal system. Her recent work focuses on the health of perinatal populations and access to support services including, 1) the overall health and health care provided to pregnant and postpartum women who become incarcerated, 2) the adaptation and implementation of parenting support for early postpartum mothers who are in outpatient treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD), and 3) implementation of prison-based perinatal programs that provide services (e.g., mental health support, lactation services, childbirth education, and doula support) to mother-infant dyads affected by incarceration.
